Asphalt Driveways
Whether you call them black top driveways or asphalt driveways, they’re all the same.
In the Northern United States most driveways are composed of asphalt. This is due to the amount of freeze and thaw cycles that occur in colder regions.
Asphalt is pliable, making it much more forgiving than concrete when it comes to heaving from freeze cycles.
Asphalt is also an excellent choice in a snowy region. The black color can soak in the heat from the sun and melt snow much faster than any other type of driveway surface.
Concrete Driveways
Concrete is an excellent driveway material. It is versatile, preferred for durability, appearance, low maintenance, and indicates quality construction from the first glance. A concrete driveway does it all.
Concrete driveways have long been known to give trouble-free service to homeowners. The reason is simple. Concrete is enduring with many driveways lasting 30 years and longer without major maintenance. Just as with many high-quality purchases, concrete costs less in the long run.
Stoop
A stoop is a staircase leading into the home. Though they’re typically smaller than a deck, porch or patio, and don’t serve as many purposes, stoops have their own charm. A stoop is usually built to access the front door, but you can also find stoops at side or back doors. They are typically build using concrete, brick, stone or a combination of those materials.
Sidewalks
A typical city or builder installed sidewalk is straight and runs along the perimeter of your property. There is often a section of plantable space between the curb and sidewalk known as a parking or planting strip. Most homeowners opt for growing low-maintenance plants or grass in this area. If your home does not have sidewalks, you have more design flexibility. You can have a gently curving sidewalk, or one made from a more interesting material than standard concrete.
Belgium Block
Belgian Blocks are solid granite, cubical-shaped cobblestones used in a variety of applications including paving and edging. These natural and durable blocks are sold in a variety of color and sizes.
